    Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. We integrate academic rigor, community, family, and wellness to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has eight campuses that serve over 3,500 students from pre-K through 12th grade.

     

    Description:

     

    The Dean of Culture will be responsible for leading the school-wide efforts to build and maintain a strong, positive, achievement-oriented school.   He/she will be responsible for creating behavior systems for the school and for modeling how to establish strong, mutually respectful relationships with students and families.  He/she will support the staff in addressing behavior problems as they arise, ensuring that students maximize their level of engagement & contribute to the learning experience in the classroom.

    Responsibilities

    • Model respectful, professional relationships and promote collegial school climate
    • Build and maintain systems to ensure a positive and achievement-oriented school culture
    • Manage student discipline
    • Plan and implement a behavior management system with meaningful incentives to reward good behavior and with effective consequences to correct misbehaviors.
    • Analyze school-wide trends around attendance, behavior, homework and class transitions and develop and lead initiatives to address challenges.
    • Conduct regular school culture walkthroughs to maintain a high bar of excellence.
    • Create individual plans for students with behavior challenges; partner with teachers to provide extra interventions.
    • Support teacher in classroom management, student engagement and parent involvement.
    • Lead recognition and celebration events (e.g., for perfect attendance or academic achievement) and other school-wide culture-building activities.
    • Manage community meetings
    • Communicate a high bar for performance in a manner that supports challenges and inspires each teacher; set clear, measurable, outcome-oriented performance goals for the year; engage teachers in self-evaluation and provide formal and informal feedback on performance.
    • Plan and facilitate parent workshops on social and behavior issues to promote parent engagement
    • Manage all student disciplinary matters, including suspensions/detentions and parent interactions
    • Other duties as assigned. 

    Other Duties:

    • Hire, evaluate, schedule and manage all teacher assistants and other classified staff as assigned.
    • Provide professional development and support to teacher assistants
    • Other duties as needed and/or assigned

     

     

     

    Qualifications

    • Ability to define and articulate a school philosophy aligned to the CNCA vision.
    • Ability to exemplify the respect and humility required to work effectively with all stakeholders, including families and members of the community.
    • Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents, and all staff members.
    • Ability to prioritize mission critical tasks, based on school performance goals.
    • Ability to work with students and to motivate and engage them in a positive way.
    • Ability to demonstrate leadership and project management skills needed to facilitate a group or project.

     

    Applicants who possess the following skills will make the strongest candidates:

    • BA degree in an appropriate discipline
    • 3-5 years of directly related experience 

     

     

    Salary Details:

    K-8 Dean-            $67,000-$77,000

    9-12 Dean-          $68,000-$78,000
