     Temporary Preschool Lead Teacher

      

    Camino Nuevo Charter Academy (CNCA) is a community of high-performing public schools that utilizes a comprehensive approach to prepare students from preschool through high school for success in college and in life. We integrate academic rigor, community, family, and wellness to empower students to thrive in a culturally connected and changing world. Founded in 2000, Camino Nuevo Charter Academy students represent the neighborhood of MacArthur Park west of downtown Los Angeles, a community that is one of the most under-resourced and densely populated neighborhoods in Los Angeles. Currently, CNCA has eight campuses that serve over 3,500 students from pre-K through 12th grade.  The Early Childhood Center is looking for dynamic and hard-working individuals to join our team.

    Responsibilities

    Lead Teacher will perform a full range of duties, including but not limited to:

    • Plan and implement developmentally appropriate activities to promote the overall growth of children.
    • Instruct children (4 years of age) in activities designed to promote social, physical, and intellectual growth needed for primary school.
    • Assess and monitor student achievement and growth.
    • Engage in meaningful professional development activities.
    • Communicate with parents and participate in the schools’ community outreach efforts.

    Along with the responsibilities stated above, the Head Teacher will also provide support to the Associate Director by:

    • Acts in absence of Associate Director with responsibility for ensuring the ECE program is in compliance with state and licensing regulations and requirements and the authority to acknowledge receipt of deficiency notices and to correct deficiencies that constitute immediate threats to children’s health and safety.
    • Initiates, plans, implements, and oversees the activities of the ECE program with the Associate Director
    • Provides leadership, guidance, and supervision to teachers and volunteers. Leads others in the planning and delivery of the ECE program services and activities. Assists with resolution of ECE questions, problems and/or issues as they arise. Trains counsels, and offers guidance as needed.
    • Provides feedback during evaluation of staff.
    • Assists in staff scheduling.      
    • Provides support in schedules and assigns staff breaks and meal periods.
    • Conducts staff meeting and training sessions. Participates in orientation of new staff.
    • Serves as liaison between parents and Associate Director. Relays information and recommendation to Associate Director.
    • Identifies potential improvements and enhancements to program and recommends corresponding changes in procedure.

     

     

    Qualifications

     

    • Bachelors in ECE or child development required.
    • Bilingual Spanish/English required.
    • At least five years work experience in preschool or childcare center as a Lead Teacher.
    • Experience working with English Language Learners
    • Educational vision for and experience with low income and/or minority students
    • Commitment to preserving the cultural heritage of students
    • Passion for working with children and their families
